Perfect Thin Crust Pizza

I love pizza! It’s my favorite thing to eat and probably for good reason. I was born and raised right outside New Haven CT, which if you watch the Food Network or Travel Channel you know is one of the pizza capitals of the country! I grew up eating amazing pizza so my palate was set from the moment I could chew. My sister also runs a popular pizza truck in this area so I’m always eating really good, thin crust brick oven pizza.

Now I don’t have a brick oven at home, but I can still do an awesome thin crust pizza. Before you even begin, you need two items: a pizza stone and a pizza peel. You can get both of these things here and here. In terms of pizza dough, we buy at the grocery store. We use ShopRite or Big Y’s dough. You can also go to your local pizza joint and see if they will sell you some dough. If you are looking for make your own, you can check out this great recipe here.

Ingredients:

1 pizza dough

4 oz marinara sauce, I use my homemade sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional: pepperoni, bacon, olives, any other pizza toppings

Instructions:

Note: Make sure dough is at room temperature before beginning. It will be much easier to work with.

1) Place pizza stone on bottom tray of oven and preheat to 500 degrees.

2) Start working your dough on a well floured surface. Slowly start thinning out the dough as thin as you can get it without making any holes. A rolling pin can help. Add flour to the peal and place dough on there. Give the dough a light slide back and forth to make sure it’s not sticking.

Note: If you really want to help prevent the dough from raising too high, take a fork and pierce air holes all over the dough before adding the other ingredients.

3) Start spreading sauce over dough, leave the edges clean. Top with cheese and the toppings of your choice.

4) Slide the pizza onto the hot stone, start at the back and slowing shake it on.

5) Bake for 12 minutes then check it. If you want it more crispy, bake for another minute or two. Remove from oven and let sit for a minute before cutting. If you don’t have a pizza cutter, you can find one here.
