So I had the chance to watch This is 40 over the weekend and going in I was expecting good things. I was a fan of Knocked Up when it first came out and I liked a lot watching it again when I was pregnant.
The movie was not as great as I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, there were some very funny parts. The hubby and I defiantly had to stifle some loud laughter so we didn’t wake up the munchkin. Paul Rudd was hilarious as usual and the scenes with Jason Segel killed me. But there was one glaring plot point of the movie that just kept slapping us in the face (well two if you count the WAY overuse of Nicki Minaj….any Minaj is too much Minaj), this couple kept talking about financial problems and maybe losing their house….but they were driving around in $50,000 worth of vehicles, taking vacations and having huge catered birthday parties! I get that when times are tough you can’t just live tight all the time, but go nuts and order pizza one night! Don’t throw any expensive catered event with staff that has to be paid also!
Aside from that storyline, the movie was pretty enjoyable considering how long it was (over two hours). I do wish they did an update of Allison and Ben from Knocked Up, but considering how much Katherine Heigl shit-talked after the film came out I can imagine why nobody would want her on set the second time around.
So all in all, if you bored one night and the kids are asleep or away for the night, this is a good flick to check out.
